Lil Durk Jury Selection Resumes As 16-Person Panel Takes Shape

Lil Durk’s federal trial moves into day two as jury selection resumes and opening statements could begin Friday afternoon.

Lil Durk’s federal murder-for-hire trial began August 20 as Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald started jury selection from roughly 80 prospective jurors in Los Angeles.

The court spent the first day narrowing that pool toward 12 jurors and four alternates.

Jurors were not seated Thursday, leaving the selection process unfinished when proceedings ended and pushing the remaining work into Friday morning.

Today, August 21, proceedings are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. PT, with prospective jurors expected to return to the courtroom around 10 a.m.

Jury selection is then expected to resume as Fitzgerald and attorneys continue reducing the pool toward the final panel.

If that work finishes on schedule, the court expects to seat the jury today and could begin opening statements after lunch around 2 p.m.

That timetable remains dependent on completing jury selection and Fitzgerald’s schedule, so the opening-statement time could move if the process takes longer.

Lil Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the August 2022 shooting near Beverly Center.

AllHipHop previously reported prosecutors accuse Lil Durk of arranging a paid attack targeting Quando Rondo after King Von was killed in Atlanta.

Quando Rondo survived the Los Angeles shooting, while his cousin Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson was killed when gunfire struck their vehicle.

The current trial centers on conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, interstate-commerce allegations and discharging a machine gun during a violent crime.

Fitzgerald separated newer racketeering allegations from this trial in July, keeping accusations tied to Stephon Mack’s 2022 Chicago killing out of the current proceeding.

Fitzgerald has not set a trial date for the separate Chicago racketeering case, leaving another federal proceeding unresolved after this trial.
