Menace II Society Star’s Health Crisis Reaches Critical Inflection Point

Samuel Monroe Jr. is in the fight of his life at an LA hospital, and every day brings new complications that his family never expected to face.

The “Menace II Society” actor landed on life support back in April when what seemed like a routine illness turned into something far more serious.

His wife Shawna Stewart shared details about how his condition has spiraled, with his brain swelling and his body struggling against multiple infections that won’t quit.

The medical issues keep piling up.

His brain ventricles have enlarged and aren’t functioning properly, which means the fluid that’s supposed to protect his brain isn’t staying where it needs to be.

This is causing constant seizures that doctors can’t seem to control. He’s already undergone three separate brain surgeries, and his left lung has partially collapsed, adding another layer to an already dire situation.

Doctors are monitoring his brain activity with regular CT scans, but the outlook is serious. Medical professionals are warning that he could end up in a vegetative state, forcing his family to contemplate decisions that no parent or spouse should ever have to make.

His body has been ravaged by MRSA pneumonia on top of the meningitis that started this whole ordeal. He’s required multiple blood transfusions within days and is now on dialysis because his kidneys are failing.

The family set up a GoFundMe campaign back in April to help manage the astronomical medical expenses from his extended hospital stay.

Stewart confirmed that the family has decided to proceed with three to four additional CT scans to evaluate his brain function and determine what path forward makes sense.

The results of those scans will likely determine whether they need to make an incredibly difficult choice about his care.

There’s no easy answer here, just varying degrees of heartbreak. His loved ones are holding onto hope while simultaneously preparing for outcomes they’re praying won’t happen.
