Folk singer-songwriter Noah Kahan is the latest artist speaking out against one of the grossest trends at concerts: fans relieving themselves in the crowd rather than leaving their spot. How did we get here?
During his concert in Philadelphia on Friday night, a fan reportedly defecated on the floor near the stage. After the show, Kahan posted on X:
“If you have to poop at a show, please dear God just go to the bathroom. LMAO.”
He followed up with another joke:
“I’ve pooped my pants as much as the next 29-year-old, but you guys gotta understand there’s a venue worker out there with a 1000-yard stare after dealing with that.”
The incident comes as more artists have begun addressing the bizarre behavior. Earlier this month, Olivia Rodrigo discussed the issue during an appearance on the UK radio program Kiss Breakfast, saying she has encountered fans wearing diapers so they won’t lose their place in the front row.
“I have been to certain concerts and certain festivals where people wear diapers so that they can be in the front row of the show,” Rodrigo said. “That’s been an experience as a performer that I have smelled and experienced.”
She stopped short of shaming those fans but maybe she should.
“It’s like with the ball drop in New York for New Year’s Eve. Everyone is wearing diapers. They sit there all day. That’s a thing. I think about it kind of often. It’s a real thing.”
The conversation isn’t entirely new and it seems like it all started with Taylor Swift.
During Taylor Swift‘s blockbuster Eras Tour in 2023, some fans openly admitted on social media that they wore adult diapers to avoid long bathroom lines and ensure they didn’t miss any part of the concert. Swift herself has never publicly addressed the trend. Uh, maybe she should. That front-row spot can still be there if they want it to be. Just ask people that went to the Roots Picnic.
Thankfully, Hip-Hop is not on this type of time.
